Powder extinguishers are available in a variety of types. You can see them labeled with: "BC" or "ABC".
ABC indicator shows that they are designed to extinguish fires of class A, B, C, and labeled "BC" indicates that the extinguisher is intended for fires Class B and C.
The powder extinguishers extinguish the fire by covering the fuel with a thin layer of powder and thus separate it from the oxygen in the air. In addition the powder also works to interrupt the chemical reaction of the fire.
